Dear Sir or Madam,

Last Thursday, I traveled on the 8: train from Glasgow to London King’s Cross

and I was quite angry with the service of your company.

The train didn’t come on time and it was forty minutes late when it left Glasgow. A man

at the station said sorry to us, but he didn’t give us any reasons for the delay(误点) . We

then had further delays on the way and had to wait another thirty minutes. As a result, I

missed my plane from London to Frankfurt and had to wait for several hours.

What’s more, the service on the train was also very poor, The trip took more than five

hours. Unluckily, we could buy nothing but some soft drinks on the train. Worst of all,

something was wrong with the air conditioning ( 空调系统) and it got hotter and hotter in the

train. Before we reached King’s Cross, the temperature was over 40°C.

Because of your poor service, I feel you should pay me compensation(赔偿).

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

David Roberson

The first chocolate was eaten by people in South America hundreds of years ago. In those

days, the people did not really eat chocolate. They used the cocoa bean (可可豆) to make a

chocolate drink and they enjoyed it very much. Many years later, the cocoa bean was brought

to other countries and people came to love the taste of chocolate.

In 1824, John Cadbury opened a small shop in Britain. One of the things he sold was

chocolate drink. In 1831, he opened a factory to make chocolate drink. He wanted to

encourage people to drink chocolate instead of other drinks. A few years later, a man called

Joseph Fry found a way to make chocolate instead of only drinking it. But at that time

chocolate was very expensive and only the rich people could buy it. Later, ad more and more

chocolate bars were produced and sold, it became cheaper.

However, aT first only plain chocolate (a kind of chocolate without milk and with very

little sugar) was produced. Milk chocolate came later and this was made by adding milk to the

chocolate. The first milk chocolate bar was made in Cadbury’s factory in 1897. Their most

famous chocolate, Cadbury’s Milk Bar, was made in 1905, It has been the most popular

chocolate in Britain and around the world for over 100 years. The Cadbury factory is still in

Britain and the chocolate produced there is eaten all over the world. Every year, thousands of

visitors visit the factory in order to see how chocolate is made.

There are many theories about the beginning of drama in ancient Greece. The one

most widely accepted today is based on the assumption that drama evolved from ritual.

The argument for this view goes as follows. In the beginning, human beings viewed the

natural forces of the world, even the seasonal changes, as unpredictable, and they sought

through various means, to control these unknown and feared powers. Those measures which

appeared to bring the desired results were then retained and repeated until they hardened into

fixed rituals. Eventually stories arose which explained or veiled the mysteries of the rites. As

time passed some rituals were abandoned, but the stories, later called myths, persisted and

provided material for art and drama.

Those who believe that drama evolved out of ritual also argue that those rites

contained the seed of theater because music, dance, masks, and costumes were almost

always used. Furthermore, a suitable site had to be provided for performances, and

when the entire community did not participate, a clear division was usually made

between the "acting area" and the "auditorium." In addition, there were performers, and since

considerable importance was attached to avoiding mistakes in the enactment

of rites, religious leaders usually assumed that task. Wearing masks and costumes, they

often impersonated other people, animals, or supernatural beings, and mimed the desired

effect-success in hunt or battle, the coming rain, the revival of the Sun-as an actor

might. Eventually such dramatic representations were separated from religious activities.

Another theory traces the theater's origin from the human interest in

ing to this view, tales (about the hunt, war, or other feats) are gradually

elaborated at first through the use of impersonation, action, and dialogue by a narrator and

then through the assumption of each of the roles by a different person. A closely related

theory traces theater to those dances that are primarily rhythmical and gymnastic or that are

imitations of animal movements and sounds.

36. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a common element of theater and ritual?

A. Dance B. Costumes C. Music D. Magic

37. The word "considerable" is closest in meaning to

A. thoughtful B. substantial C. relational D. ceremonial

38. The word "enactment" in line 15 is closest in meaning to

A. establishment B. performance C. authorization D. season

39. The word "they" in line 16 refers to

A. mistakes B. costumes C. animals D. performers

40. According to the passage, what is the main difference between ritual and drama?

A. Ritual uses music whereas drama does not.

B. Ritual is shorter than drama.

C. Ritual requires fewer performers than drama.

D. Ritual has a religious purpose and drama does not.

Hunting for a job late last year, lawyer Gant Redmon stumbled across CareerBuilder, a job

database on the Internet. He searched it with no success but was attracted by the site's "personal

search agent". It's an interactive feature that lets visitors key in job criteria such as location, title,

and salary, then E-mails them when a matching position is posted in the database. Redmon chose

the keywords legal, intellectual property, and Washington, D.C. Three weeks later, he got his first

notification of an opening. "I struck gold," says Redmon, who E-mailed his resume to the

employer and won a position as in-house counsel for a company.

With thousands of career-related sites on the Internet, finding promising openings can be

time-consuming and inefficient. Search agents reduce the need for repeated visits to the databases.

But although a search agent worked for Redmon, career experts see drawbacks. Narrowing your

criteria, for example, may work against you: "Every time you answer a question you eliminate a

possibility." says one expert.

For any job search, you should start with a narrow concept what you think you want to do

then broaden it. "None of these programs do that," says another expert. "There's no career

counseling implicit in all of this." Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip

service to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database; when you get E-mail, consider it a

reminder to check the database again. "I would not rely on agents for finding everything that is

added to a database that might interest me," says the author of a job-searching guide.

Some sites design their agents to tempt job hunters to return. When CareerSite's agent sends

out messages to those who have signed up for its service, for example, it includes only three

potential jobs those it considers the best matches. There may be more matches in the database; job

hunters will have to visit the site again to find them and they do. "Oh the! day after we send our

messages, we see a sharp increase in our traffic," says Seth Peets, vice president of marketing for

CareerSite.

Even those who aren't hunting for jobs may find search agents worthwhile. Some use them to

keep a close watch on the demand for their line of work or gather information on compensation to

arm themselves when negotiating for a raise. Although happily employed, Redmon maintains his

agent at CareerBuilder. "You always keep your eyes open," he says. Working with a personal

search agent means having another set of eyes looking out for you.

41. How did Redmon find his job?

[A] By searching openings in a job database. [B] By posting a matching position in a database.

[C] By using a special service of a database. [D] By E-mailing his resume to a database.

42. Which of the following can be a disadvantage of search agents?

[A] Lack of counseling. [B] Limited number of visits.

[C] Lower efficiency. [D] Fewer successful matches.

43. The expression "tip service" (Line 4, Paragraph 3) most probably means ________.

[A] advisory [B] compensation [C] interaction [D] reminder

44. Why does CareerSite's agent offer each job hunter only three job options?

[A] To focus on better job matches. [B] To attract more returning visits.

[C] To reserve space for more messages. [D] To increase the rate of success.

45. Which of the following is true according to the text?

[A] Personal search agents are indispensable to job-hunters.

[B] Some sites keep E-mailing job seekers to trace their demands.

[C] Personal search agents are also helpful to those already employed.

[D] Some agents stop sending information to people once they are employed.

In a classroom in any countries, the teacher teaches more than art or history or language.

He or she teaches something behind-the culture(文化) of the country.

In a country such as the United States, people with different history, culture and language

join together and they pay much attention to personal ideas, Teachers try to make each student

special. Students to do not have to remember a lot of information, instead, they work and find

answers by themselves, There is often discussion in the classroom. At an early age students

learn to have their own ideas. Their education encourages personal thought(思想). The

importance is placed on how to arrive at an answer and not only to get the correct answer.

In most Asian countries, people have the same language, history and culture. Perhaps for

this reason. The education there pays more attention to group goals than personal ideas;

Children in China and Japan often work together and help each other on homework. In the

classroom, the ways of teaching are often very traditional. The teacher says, and the students

listen, There is not much discussion. Instead, the students repeat (重复) rules or information

that they have been taught in order to keep them in mind.

In many ways these differences come form different educational ideas. In Western

countries teachers are taught to help students to learn. They make is easier for the students to

learn by themselves. In some Asian countries, however, teachers often feel that their job is to

pass knowledge to students.
