What I Would Say to College Kids

Hi there college kids! This is Timmy, a 3rd grader from

Oakwood Elementary. I know you're all grown up now and in

that really big school called "college." I wanted to give you some

advice and words of wisdom from a kid's point of view since

you're probably feeling very grown up and mature.

First off, try not to stress out too much! I know college seems

really hard with all those big textbooks, tough classes, and

having to write lots of papers. My big brother Joshua is in college

and he's always staying up late working on stuff. He gets pretty

stressed sometimes. But you gotta remember that being a kid

was hard too! We had to learn how to tie our shoes, stop wetting

the bed, and deal with bullies on the playground. Big challenges

for little people! So cut yourself some slack and don't put too

much pressure on yourselves.

Another thing - don't forget to have fun and be a kid

sometimes! You might think you're too old and mature for kids'

stuff now, but everyone needs to act silly and goofy once in a

while. Maybe have a pillow fight in your dorm or build a fort out

of couch cushions. Play some video games and eat pizza and ice

cream for dinner. Having that inner child and letting loose is

important for your mental health. If you're too serious all the

time, you'll burn out.

Speaking of being a kid, here's some advice - don't grow up

too fast! I know you're legally adults now, but that doesn't mean

you need to act like a grumpy old man or lady. Keep having that

youthful spirit of adventure, curiosity, and positive attitude.

Don't let the stresses of college life like paying bills, finding jobs,

and being responsible make you grow up before your time.

There's still plenty of time to be mature - enjoy this transition

time while you can!

Another biggie - make sure to get enough sleep! As a kid, I

never understood why my parents were always nagging me

about getting to bed on time until I learned how important sleep

is for growing bodies and brains. Well college students, your

brains are still developing too! You need just as much rest and

recharge time as us kids. I see so many teens walking around like

zombies because they don't get enough Zs. Skipping sleep to

study more or stay up late is just going to make you dumber.
