Yummy Foods from My Hometown Putian

Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm from a city called

Putian in the Fujian province of China. Even though I'm just a kid,

I'm really proud of the delicious foods that come from my

hometown. The cuisine in Putian is so tasty and unique. Let me

tell you all about it!

In Putian, we have this really cool dish called oor tsae which

means "oyster omelet" in the local dialect. It's made with fresh

oysters from the sea, eggs, and lots of delicious seasonings like

garlic, scallions, and Chinese celery. The oysters are so plump

and juicy! The way they cook it is pretty neat too. They mix up a

batter with the eggs and veggies, then ladle it onto a sizzling hot

pan. As the omelet cooks, they pile a big mound of oysters right

in the middle. It's like having an oyster party in your mouth!

Another famous Putian dish is known as lor bak which means

"crispy meat roll." They take juicy ground pork and mix it with

things like mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and cured Chinese

sausage. Then they wrap it up tight in a tofu skin and deep fry it

until it's nice and crispy on the outside but still tender inside. The

best part is the dipping sauce - it's made with garlic, chili, and

vinegar, giving it a sweet, sour, and spicy kick! Whenever my

grandma makes lor bak, me and my cousins fight over the last

pieces.

For snacking, we love eating yUun tó ko which are savory

doughnuts made of rice flour. My mom says the secret is frying

them at just the right temperature so they puff up into an airy

ring. Then you can dip them in different sauces and seasonings

like pork floss, shredded radish and chilies, or sweet and sour

sauce. I could munch on those all day long!

Putian is right by the ocean, so we take full advantage of the

fresh seafood too. One super tasty way to eat fish is called phah

hu. First, they deep fry a whole pomfret fish until the skin is

cracker crispy. Then they dress it with a sauce made from garlic,

vinegar, and lots of chili peppers. Just thinking about that spicy

and tangy sauce makes my mouth water!

Desserts in Putian are awesome as well. My absolute favorite

is the beh talu pia, which are round flat pastries with a sweet

filling in the middle. The dough is made of rice flour and fried

into a crispy shell. Then it gets stuffed with a mixture of finely
