Release Notes for IDS-60 and PFM/PDS-60

Software Update Change

The software update process has changed starting with this release.

This change allows the ability to update software even as Microsoft Windows security continues to increase.

Software updates will now include database updates as well. This will make the database update process more

robust.

New Software Update Numbering

Software updates will be numbered in the following way:

IDS-release number (for example, IDS-60.01)

PDS release number (for example, PDS-60.01)

IDS

Your computer must be activated to receive automatic notification of updates

To Activate: System Utilities->Network Options->Activate

The system will check for updates approximately three minutes after detecting an internet connection.

- If IDS is running and the VCM is not locked (no padlock is present in the lower right corner of the IDS

screen) you will be notified if any updates are available. When you receive this notification you can

choose to exit IDS and retrieve the updates or dismiss the pop-up and continue working with IDS.

- If IDS is running and the VCM is locked (padlock is present in the lower right corner of the IDS screen) the

check for updates will be delayed for one hour.

- If IDS is not running, the Software Manager will notify you of any available updates.

You will receive a notification that updates are available no more than once a day.

You will not receive any notification if no updates are available.

You can also do a manual check for updates at any time by selecting Software Update from the IDS System

Utilities page.

PFM/PDS (Does not pertain to Ford of Europe)

PFM will check for updates at startup if an internet connection is available.

- You will be notified if any updates are available. When you receive this notification you can choose to exit

PFM and retrieve the updates or dismiss the pop-up and continue working with PFM.

You will receive a notification that updates are available no more than once a day.

You will not receive any notification if no updates are available.

You can also do a manual check for updates while running PFM by selecting Updates->PFM Updates->Software

Update.

Recommendations to Improve Installation Time

You may notice that the software installation time has increased with the new software update process. Installation speed

will vary and is dependent on several variables such as the processor speed of your laptop, the amount of available RAM

and the number of other processes that are running. The installation time has varied from approximately 8 minutes to 20

minutes. The following recommendations are made to help reduce the time it takes to install a software update:

Make sure that the minimum recommended 512 MB of RAM is installed. Having less than 512 MB will significantly

increase the software installation time.

Make sure that no other applications are running during the software installation.

Perform regular system maintenance.

- Delete temporary internet files

- Defragment your hard drive

VCM 2009.3 DVD Vehicle Coverage

The VCM 2009.3 DVD (R60) includes both IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) and PDS (Portable

Diagnostic Software) tools.

Diagnostic coverage includes most 1996 – 2010 MY (produced 1995 – 2009) Ford, Lincoln/Mercury

& Mazda vehicles.
