学年四川省绵阳市八年级上学期期末英语试题

Teeth are very important to us. To keep our teeth healthy, we need to go to the dentist often. Some

children are afraid to go to the dentist, but not me.

I’m an 8-year-old boy with the name of Tom. I have a funny dentist. His name is Dr. Happy. I don’t

think that’s his real name, but that’s what he tells the kids. He has a cool waiting room with

computer games and a big toy box. Dr. Happy always wears funny hats. He asks funny questions

when he pulls teeth like “Are you married yet?” “What’s your job?” and “Do you eat flowers to

make your breath smell so sweet?” That makes me laugh. One time, I went to get one of my teeth

pulled. He let me lie down and asked “What has lots of teeth but never goes to the dentist?” A

moment later, he said, “A comb

(梳子)

!”

When I laughed, he pulled my tooth. It didn’t hurt at all! He also teaches me how to take care of my

teeth in an interesting way. When I leave, he always sends me home with a surprise. Last Saturday,

he dressed like a rubber spider

(橡胶蜘蛛)

to send me home. It scared my mom a lot.

Thanks to Dr. Happy, I have such healthy teeth.

One afternoon, I visited an art museum and I was really looking forward to a quiet view of the art

B

D

I met them several times as I moved through the different rooms of art. Each time I heard her

continuous talk, I moved away quickly.

I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop when the couple came near the exit. Before

they left, the man pulled out a white thing from his pocket. He extended it into a long stick and then

tapped his way out.

“He’s a brave man,” the clerk said. “I would give up if I were blinded at such a young age. But he

said his life wouldn’t change during his recovery. So, as before, he and his wife come in whenever

there’s a new art show.”

“But how does he enjoy the art?” I asked, “He can’t see.”

“Can’t see? You’re wrong. He sees a lot. More than you or I do.” The clerk said, “His wife describes

each painting so he can see it in his head.”

I learned about patience, courage and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing

paintings to a person without sight and the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness to

change his life. And I saw the love shared two people as I watched this couple walk away hand in

hand.
