My Daily Routine

Hi there! I'm Timmy, a 13-year-old student in 7th grade.

People are always asking me what my typical day is like, so I

decided to write all about my daily routine. Buckle up, because

it's a bit of a wild ride!

The Day Begins

Waking up is probably my least favorite part of the day. My

mom has to practically drag me out of bed every morning at 6:30

AM. I'm just not a morning person at all! I hit snooze about five

times before finally peeling myself out from under the covers.

Then it's straight to the bathroom to brush my teeth and splash

some water on my sleepy face.

After that, I head downstairs for some breakfast. My favorite

is waffles or pancakes, but most days I just have a bowl of cereal

with milk. My little sister Samantha is already at the table stuffing

her face. She's 9 and has way more energy than me in the

mornings. We both try to be done eating by 7:15 so we can get

our backpacks and stuff together for school.

The School Day

The bus for Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School comes at

7:30 on the dot. I kind of dread the bus ride because the big kids

from the high school are on there too and they can be real jerks

sometimes. At least I get to sit with my buddies Jack and Chris.

Once we get to school at 8 AM, we have 15 minutes to go to

our lockers and hang out before first period starts at 8:15. My

first couple classes are usually math and science, which aren't too

bad. I'm decent at those subjects. English is harder for me

though.

We get a half hour for lunch at 11:30. The food is pretty

gross, but I'll eat pretty much anything. After lunch, we have a

couple more periods in the afternoon like history and gym class.

My gym teacher, Coach Richards, is crazy and makes us run laps

until we're exhausted. School ends at 3 PM and it's a mad dash

for the bus!

After School and Evening

I get home around 3:45 most days. The first thing I do is grab

an after-school snack, like chips or cookies. Then I'll spend a little

downtime playing video games or watching YouTube videos

before starting on homework around 5 PM.

My mom gets home from work at 6, so we'll have dinner

together as a family around 6:30. Dinner is pretty much the only

time we're all able to catch up on how our days went. After

dinner, it's back to the homework grind until around 8.

Once I'm done with all my homework and chores, I'm free to

do whatever until bedtime at 9:30. I'll usually watch some TV

shows I'm into or play more video games. Sometimes I'll

FaceTime my friends and we'll chat about sports, girls, or stupid

stuff our teachers did that day.

My mom starts nagging me to get ready for bed around 9,

so I'll take a shower, put on my pajamas, and finally crawl back

into my oh-so-comfortable bed. I have a hard time falling asleep

a lot of nights because my mind is racing thinking about

everything going on. But eventually, exhaustion sets in and I'm

dead to the world until that dreaded 6:30 AM wake up call!

The Weekends

Weekends are a totally different story when it comes to my

routine. Saturday mornings are for sleeping in as late as possible

- we're talking 10 or 11 AM some days! My parents never let me

sleep past noon though.

Instead of rushing out the door, I can actually lounge around

in my pajamas for a while playing video games or watching

cartoons. We'll usually have a bigger breakfast/brunch like

pancakes, waffles, or an omelette around 11 or 12.

The afternoons are when I have time for fun stuff like going

to the park with friends, hitting the mall, or checking out a new

movie. Sometimes we'll just hang out in Jack's basement playing

games and eating junk food all day.

Sundays are a bit more productive. My chores like taking out

the trash, cleaning my room, and doing laundry have to get done.

But I still have plenty of free time to do whatever. A lot of

Sundays are spent watching sports or playing pick-up games of

basketball at the rec center.

Dinner is usually earlier on Sundays, like 5 PM, because my

parents have to get ready for the work week ahead. After dinner,

I'll knock out any remaining homework, then chill for the rest of

the night dreading that 6:30 wake up call coming way too soon!

Well, there you have it - a full look at my typical daily routine

as a middle schooler. It's a lot of studying and school mixed in

with friends, video games, sports, and way too little sleep! I know

I complain about it a lot, but I actually feel pretty lucky to have

such an active, fun life. Maybe I'll appreciate these days more

when I'm old and lame. But for now, this routine is about all my

pre-teen brain can handle!
