December 11, on the airline flight from Bangkok Thailand to Nanjing, two tourists conflicted with

an air attendant. The male tourist poured garbage in the aisle(过道) and said something bad to

the flight attendant. The female tourist threw a whole cup of hot water over the flight attendant.

At last the plane was forced to turn back. On January 10, 2015, a passenger on Flight MU2036

opened an emergency exit without permission because of dissatisfaction with the flight delay. At

last the plane was forced to turn back.

These things not only affect the normal order of flight but also have a bad international influence.

7. There are many colours in nature. But do you know that a colour has weight? I think you’ll

say “no”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe, you may do a small experiment(实

验).

First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the boxes. Wrap(包裹)

one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. Now hold the boxes

with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.

Why does it happen? A scientist found that different colours have different weight in a man’s

mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every colour has its own

weight in our mind. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white. The

scientists told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour? Of course not. Then

why did the scientists say so? That is because every colour represents a kind of light wave(光

波)------ a certain wavelength(波长). It reaches our brain(大脑) through organs(感觉器官)

According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colour they like, and refuse the

colour they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like. Or you’ll

be nervous or even get ill. If you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture(家具)

for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel

you have been there for only one hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room

and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change

when we see different colours.

有自己的重量。最重的颜色是红色,然后是蓝色、绿色、橙色、黄色和白色。科学家告诉我们,

颜色也有气味。但不能闻到。所以该选D。

A.You will feel excited.

B.You will be happy and contened.

C.Your temperature will fall.

D.You will be nervous.

9. Like many people, I have no clear idea about heroes. Maybe sometimes we all wonder if we

need a hero and what a hero really is.

Although there are a lot of differences in cultures, heroes around the world have much in

common. They all give us courage and make us want to learn from them.

A hero has a special story to tell and people are interested in it. But a hero is not just the person

with great fame(声誉).

A hero has to experience life with new and further meaning. So if you want to live like a hero,

you have to know what or whom you serve. If you serve only your own fame, you may be just

famous persons instead of heroes.

A hero considers more than common people. He is able to make people moved and create new

chances.

注意:每空格1个单词。

Country music is a kind of modern-day pop music, originated (起源) in the southern United

States and Appalachia mountains. The singers usually play the guitar, and in the 1920s they

started using electric guitars. Nowadays people use the violin, banjo, and slide-guitar as well.

The music at the very beginning was generally very smooth, beautiful and the phrasing

structure (句法结构) also was simple. In the 1950s, American country music was about other

things, for example, love and money. In the 1960s, songs were often full of anger, and some of

them made fun of the political (政治的) leaders. During the 1990s, American country music

became more and more popular. Song writers were no longer writing about the modern values

of the USA—money, success or expensive things to buy. Instead they were writing once more

about things that were usual for everyone.

Today country music has become a big business. It brings in a lot of money. Now, it has

reached all parts of the States, from Los Angeles in the west to New York in the east. It remains

much the same as before. One subject is “the good old days”. In “the good old days” people

praised each other. They believed that the best things in life were free: sunshine, laughing,

walks in the beauty of the country, friends and music.

Healthy eating doesn’t just mean what you eat, but how you eat. Here is some advice on

healthy eating.

Eat with others. It can help you to see others’ healthy eating habits. If you usually eat with

your parents, you will find that the food you eat is more delicious.

Listen to your body. Ask yourself if you are really hungry. Have a glass of water to see if you

are thirsty—sometimes you are just thirsty, you need no food. Stop eating before you feel full.

Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After you don’t eat for the

past ten hours, your body needs food to get you going. You will be smarter after eating

breakfast.

Eat healthy snacks like fruits, yogurt or cheese. We all need snacks sometimes. In fact, it’s a

good idea to eat two healthy snacks between your three meals. This doesn’t mean that you

can eat a bag of chips instead of a meal.

Don’t eat dinner late. With our busy life, we always put off eating dinner until the last

minute. Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. This will give your body a

chance to digest most of the food before you rest for the next 8—10 hours.

16. “How are you?” is a nice question. It’s a friendly way for Americans to greet each other. But

“ How are you?”is also a very unusual question. It often doesn’t need an answer. The person

who asks” How are you?” hopes to hear the answer“Fine”even if the person’s friend isn’t fine. In

fact, they are not really a question or an answer. They are simply other ways of saying

“Hello”or“Hi”.

Sometimes people also don’t say exactly what they mean, For example, when someone asks

“ Do you agree?”the other person might think,“No,I disagree. I think you’re wrong.” But it

isn’t very polite to disagree so strongly, so the other person might say,“ I’m afraid …”It’s a nicer

way to disagree.

People also don’t say exactly what they are thinking when they finish talking with other people.

For example, many phone talks finish when one person says” I have to go now.” Often, the

person who wants to finish the phone call gives an excuse,” Someone’s at the door.” The

excuse might be real, or not. Perhaps the person who wants to finish the phone call simply

doesn’t want to talk anymore, but it isn’t polite to say that. The excuse is more polite, and it

doesn’t hurt the other person.

When they are greeting each other, talking about an idea, thinking of finishing a talk, people

don’t say exactly what they are thinking about. It’s an important way that people try to be nice to

each other, and it is part of the game of language.

【1】“How are you?”is another way of saying “Hello” or “Hi”.

【答案】A

【解析】A由第一段的最后一句话:They are simply other ways of saying “Hello”or“Hi”.可知,

How are you 只是见面打招呼的寒暄话,与原文相符,故答案为A。

say,“ I’m afraid …”It’s a nicer way to disagree.可知,直接拒绝别人是不礼貌的行为,与原文不符,

故答案为B。

【3】When someone says” I have to go now” on the phone, it means he wants to go on talking.

【答案】B

【解析】B由第三段第二行For example, many phone talks finish when one person says” I have

to go now.可知,当有人说我现在必须走了,打电话应该终止,而不是想继续打电话,与原文不

符,故答案为B。

【4】“Someone is at the door ”may be an excuse for finishing a phone call.

【答案】A

【解析】A由第三段the person who wants to finish the phone call gives an excuse,” Someone’s

at the door.”可知,有人在敲门,无论真假,只是不想打电话的一种托辞,与原文相符,故答案为

A。

【5】Sometimes, people don’t say exactly what they are thinking about just because they try to

be nice to each other.

【答案】A

【解析】A由原文最后一段people don’t say exactly what they are thinking about. It’s an

important way that people try to be nice to each other可知,人们不说出自己的真实想法,学会

更有礼貌的拒绝,是为了不伤害对方,增进友谊,与原文相符,故答案为A。

17. When Mr. Brown entered the classroom that Friday morning, he stopped at the

blackboard. For there, on the blackboard, were words in huge red letters: BROWN IS STUPID!

Mr. Brown thought for a moment. This could only have been the work of one of the four boys

who had been kept in after school the day before.

Mr. Brown turned the blackboard around so that the words could not be seen. Half an hour

later,Mr. Brown wrote four names on the board: Gerald, Alex, Michael and Laurie. Then he said,

“I want these four to stay in the classroom. The rest of you may go to the playground.”

The four boys came to the blackboard. “One of you has written a most impolite remark on the

blackboard,” he stared (盯着看)at them and thundered, “which one of you did it?”

The four boys gathered closer together, afraid of what was to come.

“Was it you, Gerald?”

Gerald shook his head. “No, it was not me, Sir,” he gave the teacher a most sincere look in his

wide eyes.

“What do you have to say, Alex?”

“I don’t know anything about it, Sir,” said Alex, and his ears turned red.

Michael had a bright idea. “Perhaps someone broke in during the night,” he said. “And when he

saw the lovely red chalk lying there, he wrote something on the blackboard.”

“Is that the best you can think so, Michael?” asked the teacher.

“I only thought ...”

“And what about you, Laurie?”

Laurie said in a rather low voice, “I didn’t do it, Sir. I don’t even know what it says on the

blackboard.”

“You really don’t know what’s written there?” Mr. Brown asked. “And I don’t think dear Gerald

knows either.”

“No, Sir. No idea.”

“Michael, Alex, can either of you tell me what it says on the blackboard?”

“No, Sir!” the two boys answered together. Brown walked forward and his fingers seized(揪住) a

schoolboy. He said in his kindest and softest voice to the other three boys, “Very well. I only

21. When you watch 3D movies or TV,you have to wear a special pair of glasses. The

3D glasses make the images from the screen look like they are there in the room with you.

Three-dimensional,or 3D,means having three dimensions(维度) : width,height and

depth.3D technology(技术) is based on the way the human brain(大脑) and eyes

work.Because the pupils of a person's eyes are about 6.5era apart(分开),when we

look at something, each eye sees it from a different angle(角度).Our eyes send the two

images to our brain, and the brain puts them together. The small difference between the

image from the right eye and the image from the left eye allows us to see depth.

When we view pictures and television in two dimensions, each eye gets the same

information. That is because the image has no real depth, and there is only one of viewing

it.So the goal of 3D technology is to get a different image into each of the viewer. It uses two

film projectors. One projects a left eye image and the other projects a right image. The 3D

glasses allow us to see a different image in each eye.

While watching 3D films,we feel that we are in the same environment as the things we're

watching. However,it also has its disadvantages. The 3D glasses work by controlling the

amount of light that reaches the eyes.It makes the screen look darker. What's more, people

with eye problems may get headaches if they spend too much time watching 3D movies,

because their brains need to work harder to "read" the images.

children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day,” says Dr.

Kataria. “Everyone is naturally good at laughing—it’s the common language. We want people to

feel happy with their lives.” There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over

1,300 in the world.

Many doctors are also interested in the effects(效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5-

year study at the UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the

body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.

So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find

out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn’t interested in

laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking silly. Our laughter teacher

told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha” while looking at each other. However,

our bodies can’t tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still

produce the same healthy effects.

Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some

people just couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and

comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with

the results.

25. Pollution

Hundreds of years ago, life was much harder than it is today. People didn’t have modern

machines. There was no modern medicine, either.

Life today has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution (污染). Water pollution

has made our rivers and lakes dirty. It kills our fish and polluted our drinking water. Noise

pollution makes us talk louder and become angry more easily. Air pollution is the most serious

kind of pollution. It’s bad to all living things in the world.

Cars, planes and factories all pollute our air every day. Sometimes the polluted air is so thick

that it is like a quilt over a city. This kind of quilt is called smog(烟雾).

Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. Factories must now clean their water before it

is thrown away, they mustn’t blow dirty smoke into the air.

We need to do many other things. We can put waste things in the dustbin and not throw it on

the ground. We can go to work by bus or with our friends in the same car. If there are fewer

people driving, there will be less pollution.

27. Mark Twain is someone Americans are taught to love. Older relatives, English teachers and

the media always praise him. But when you actually take the time to read The Adventures of

Tom Sawyer, you find that his work is more wonderful than you could ever imagine.

The novel describes a young boy named Tom Sawyer growing up in a small town along the

Mississippi River. He explores the countryside on a riverboat with his friends, falls in love with

girls, starts secret clubs and searches for treasure. Twain’s idea of childhood is magical – a time

of imagination, wonder and, of course, adventure.

More importantly, through the eyes of Tom Sawyer, Twain cleverly makes fun of US culture. For

example, Tom hates going to church, and Twain uses scenes of Tom there to mock religion and

its old traditions.

Twain’s writing is full of these kinds of critical (批判的) points about culture and politics. That’s

why he is so loved in the US – he wasn’t afraid to state his opinions, and he did so clearly.

He also believed strongly in women’s right to vote in elections and gave a famous speech on

30. Two men, Alan and Henry, both seriously ill, shared a hospital room. Alan was allowed

to sit up in his bed and his bed was next to the room’s only window. Henry had to spend all his

time sleeping on his back.

The men talked for hours, of their wives/families, their homes and their jobs. And (every

afternoon when Alan, in the bed next to the window, could sit up, he would pass the time

by describing to his roommate all the things he could see. Ducks and swans played on the

water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm among flowers. Trees

and skyline could be seen in the distance. As he described all this, Henry, on the other side

of the room, would close his eyes and imagine the scene.

One warm afternoon Alan described a parade (游行) passing by. Although Henry could not hear

the band,he could see it in his mind. Unexpectedly, an alien thought entered his head: Why

should he have all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never got to see anything? It

doesn’t seem fair. Henry felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing

more sight, his envy grew and soon let him down. He began to find himself unable to sleep.

He should be by that window—and that thought now controlled his life.

Late one night, as He lay staring at the ceiling, Alan began to cough. He was choking (窒息)

Henry watched in the dark room as the struggling man tried hard to reach the button to call for

help. Listening from across the room, he never moved, never pushed his own button which

would have brought the nurse running. In less than five minutes, the coughing and choking

stopped, along with the sound of breathing. Now, there was only silence—deathly silence.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, Henry asked if he could be moved next to the window. The

nurse was happy to make the change and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him

alone.

Slowly, painfully, he struggled to take his first look. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing

it all himself. He looked out, but faced a black wall.

34. Making a good job choice is almost as good as choosing a good life. So, choosing a job is

one of the most important decisions to make in life.

For my job, there are three important things that I will consider:

The first one - that I must work in an area I like - is most important to me. Someone once

said if you find a job that you enjoy, then you won't have to work another day. I would like to

work in an area where I can be more creative. I would like to be the most valuable member

there. All this is possible only if like what I do.

The second one is that the area of my work must lead me to solve some new and hard

problems. I would like to stay in the same area for a long time. In order for this to happen, the

work must provide enough problems. More than just working to live, I enjoy making a difference

and trying my best for the whole progress. I would also like to be well remunerated for my hard

work, so I can lead a comfortable life with this hard-won money. Then I can provide the best for

my family.

The third important thing is that I would like to work in an area that would help other people. The

work in my mind is in fields such as the army, training or management. In such areas, I can help

to develop the abilities of others and bring out their best. It would be a most satisfying job to

help young people to become the best that they can be. When I become old, I would like to look

back with a great sense of satisfaction that thousands of people have become better persons

through my work.

I accept the idea that no one should make a choice of a job suddenly or quickly. He should

decide what he wants to be in the long run. Then, he should decide how he works towards it. He

should study the proper courses, read the books and speak to knowledgeable persons in that

field before making a job choice. A good choice will most probably lead to a better life.

“Make-A-Wish” is one of the world’s most well-known charities. It makes wishes come true for

children who have serious illnesses. It gives them hope and joy and helps them forget about

their health problems and have fun.

It all started in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy who was very sick.

He always dreamed of becoming a police officer. Tommy Austin and Ron Cox, two police

officers, made his wish come true. They gave Christopher a tour of the city in a police helicopter

(直升机) and made a real police uniform for him.

There are four kinds of wishes children usually have:

I wish to go. Children usually want to travel or go to a concert, a game or a park.

I wish to meet. Children sometimes want to meet their favourite actors, singers or players.

I wish to be. Some children wish to become actors, singers or police officers.

I wish to have. They often want to have a computer, a game, a bike or many other things.

41. While many women are busy with planning their bridal showers (新娘送礼会), a baby

shower usually comes as a complete surprise. A baby shower is a party where a pregnant (怀孕

的) woman is “showered” with gifts and good wishes. A baby shower is usually given by a close

female friend or a relative of the mother-to-be. Sometimes co-workers of a pregnant person will

also hold a baby shower for her.

The baby shower is usually given when the mother-to-be is between 6 and 9 months pregnant.

Predicting the date of a baby’s birth isn’t always exact. Sometimes a baby shower can also

happen after the baby is born. A baby shower can be held in someone’s home or outside, like in

a restaurant or a catering hall. Traditionally only women are invited to a baby shower. However,

more and more baby showers are also including the father-to-be.

Like a bridal shower, a mother-to-be will register (登记) a wish list of things she wants at one or

several stores. This list usually includes things the mother wants for her baby like clothes,

diapers and even furniture. This way friends and family members can go to the stores and buy

something from the list. Registering helps make sure that there aren’t repeat items, like 30

bottles when a new mom only needed 15.

At a baby shower, people can give cards with wishes for the new baby and mom. Most of these

cards also include money or gift cards to help the mom-to-be buy whatever else she needs for

the baby. Sometimes there are games as well. In one game everyone guesses the date of the

baby. Another game lets people taste baby food and guess the flavor.

46. Several days ago,,1 went to my aunt’s home and saw my cousin who is studying English

linguistics in a university. He showed me his learning materials.H ere are two pages of t

Now I know at some point in history, the meanings of some common words that we see every

day meant something much different. The English language is developing all the time.

Nice

Generally speaking, the word “nice” is quite an expression of praise. However, back in the late

12

th

century, if someone said you were “nice”, it was far from saying good words about you.

Very long ago, “nice” was used to mean “foolish” and “stupid”. That sounds more like the kind of

words that would start a fight, not put a smile on someone’s face. Later on in the 13

th

century,

‘nice” came to mean “shy and nervous”. During the 14

th

century, it even meant “being careful”.

But finally in the 18

th

century, it changed to the kinder meaning we know today, and ever since

then, people have been using it in a lovable way.

Sad

All of us get sad from time to time. It’s a usual part of life. A loved one passes away. We expect

too much progress in an exam. Or the store is out of our favourite drink. These are all things

that can make us sad.

However, once upon a time, “sad” had a very different meaning. Back in the 14

th

century, it was

the perfect word if you had eaten too much food at dinner.

Through the years, the meaning of “sad” changed to “heavy” and then “tired”. Interestingly,

when “sad” took on its present meaning, it was actually used instead of “unrot”, an old English

word that was the opposite of “rot” that meant “cheerful” or “glad”.

【1】When did "nice" come to mean "shy and nervous"?

Feeding a crowd of hundreds doesn’t make Kenny Seals-Nutt nervous.

In fact, he does well and successfully in the kitchen. He’s in his perfect place when dicing

tomatoes, making salads and baking cakes.

By the time Kenny, 16, reached his third year of high school at Hickory Grove,

North Carolina, US, he had become president of his school’s cooking club. He also opened his

own food company, called Modern Fusion.

Kenny said he developed his love of cooking by watching his mother, and his grandmother, who

owned a catering business(饮食业). Kenny helped them both in order to remember their tips:

how long to cook chicken so it stays wet, and the right amount of tomatoes to add to the

noodles or fishes.

At the age of 5, he cooked his first dish. Taking it for his school lunch, he warmed it up in the

school’s microwave, while the other kids ate their sandwiches.

“I love to eat, and it started to become more fun to cook than to use a microwave,” he said.

Cooking came easy to Kenny, and he enjoyed adding new ingredients (作料) into

common dishes. “It started with a strong interest and I wanted to know more,” he said.

He began to watch the Food Network and read chef(大厨)blogs.

Last summer, Kenny put his skills to the test by working with his grandmother to cater(备办食

物)for his uncle’s wedding. While she cooked traditional dishes, Kenny wanted to add

something new to them.

Now Kenny spends his weekends catering his own events: weddings, birthday parties, baby

showers and so on. Kenny’s dishes are always a hit.

Chef Frederick Mookie Hicks, owner of a catering business, said Kenny’s success comes from

his ability in the kitchen. Hicks said he has asked Kenny to cook with him on jobs three times

now, and he presents Kenny as a positive example of a good chef to the students in his

cooking classes.

“He’s so smart at cooking that he doesn’t let anything stop him,” Hicks said. “I

knew in the first five minutes of working with the kid that he is something special.”

49. When Abraham Lincoln was young, he worked in a store. One day a woman came into the

store and bought some things. They added up to two dollars and six and a quarter cents.

The bill was paid, and the woman was satisfied. But the young storekeeper, not feeling quite

sure about his calculations (计算), added up the things again. To his surprise he found that it

should have been but two dollars.

“I’ve made her pay six and a quarter cents more,” said young Abe, upset.

It was an unimportant thing, and many salespersons would forget it, but Abe was too careful for

that.

“The money must be paid back,” he decided.

At night, he closed the store and walked to the home of his customer. He explained the matter,

paid over the six and a quarter cents, and returned satisfied.

Here is another story of young Lincoln’s strict honesty. A woman entered the store and asked

for half a pound of tea. The young man weighed it out. This was the last sale of the day.

The next morning, when beginning his duties, Abe discovered a four-ounce weight on the

scales (磅秤). It flashed upon him at once that he had used this in the sale last night, and so, of

course, given his customer short weight. Many people would not have been much worried by
